The 60-second reseller reply: what to message a Kleinanzeigen seller to win the deal

On a genuinely underpriced Kleinanzeigen listing, the deal is usually decided in the first few messages — and the seller isn't picking the fastest person to see the ad, but the fastest to send a message they can say yes to. Seeing the listing first buys you nothing if you then spend three minutes composing prose while someone else sends two clean sentences.

So the winning move is to have the message half-written before the listing ever appears, and to know which version to send in the five seconds after it does. This article is just that: the anatomy of a first message that gets a reply, copy-ready German templates for the situations that actually come up, and the small habits that mark you as the buyer a seller wants to deal with. No tool required — this is pure craft.

Why the first good message wins

Picture the seller's side. They listed a PS5 or a sealed booster box, and within ten minutes their inbox has six messages. Two say only "noch da?" One opens with a 40% lowball. One is a wall of questions. They don't have time to negotiate with all six — they scan for the person who is clearly reading, ready to pay, and easy to hand the item to, and they reply to that one first.

That's the whole game. You're not trying to be clever or to squeeze the last euro. You're trying to be the lowest-friction, most-obviously-serious message in a busy inbox. Everything below serves that.

The anatomy of a message that gets a reply

Five parts, in order, none of them long:

  1. A greeting. "Hallo," costs nothing and its absence reads as spam.
  2. Confirm you read the listing. Reference the item or a detail. It separates you from the copy-paste crowd.
  3. Signal you're ready to move. A concrete pickup window, or an offer to cover shipping. This is the part most people skip and it's the part that wins.
  4. One clean price move. Accept the price, or make a single fair offer. Not a haggling opener.
  5. A low-friction close. A short question the seller can answer with one word.

Keep the whole thing to three or four sentences. Longer is not more serious; it's more work to reply to.

Templates you can adapt

Copy, keep them in a note on your phone, and tweak the specifics per listing.

Item looks like a strong deal at the listed price (Festpreis, or a fair VB you'll just accept):

"Hallo, ist der Artikel noch verfügbar? Sieht gut aus — ich würde ihn zum genannten Preis nehmen und könnte heute oder morgen abholen. Passt das für Sie?"

You accept the price outright and remove the seller's biggest worry (a reliable, fast pickup). On a deal that already clears your buy box, this beats a lowball that arrives earlier.

VB, and you want to make one clean offer:

"Hallo, ist der Artikel noch da? Ich hätte großes Interesse. Wären Sie mit X€ bei sofortiger Abholung einverstanden? Ich kann kurzfristig vorbeikommen."

One number, tied to a benefit for the seller (sofortige Abholung). Not "was ist Ihr letzter Preis?" — that puts the work on them and marks you as a haggler.

The listing offers Versand (shipping) and you're not local:

"Hallo, ist der Artikel noch verfügbar? Ich würde ihn gerne per Versand nehmen und die Versandkosten übernehmen. Zahlung über PayPal wäre für mich ideal. Können wir das so machen?"

Offering to cover shipping and naming a payment method removes two rounds of back-and-forth. A quick word on payment safety, because it matters: paying via PayPal "Waren und Dienstleistungen" keeps buyer protection; some sellers ask for "Freunde und Familie," which waives it — decide your own risk, and be wary of any seller who pressures you off-platform or refuses buyer protection on a high-value item.

Abholung only, and you can get there:

"Hallo, ist der Artikel noch zu haben? Ich wohne in der Nähe und könnte heute Abend oder morgen früh abholen — sagen Sie einfach, was Ihnen passt. Bar bei Abholung, versteht sich."

Pickup-only listings favour whoever is nearby and decisive. Naming two concrete windows and "Bar bei Abholung" makes you the easy choice.

Sofort-Kaufen is available:

Just buy it, then send a short confirming note so the seller knows a real person is coming:

"Hallo, habe gerade über Sofort-Kaufen gekauft — freue mich! Wann würde Ihnen die Abholung / der Versand am besten passen?"

When Sofort-Kaufen exists, hesitating to message first is the mistake; the commitment is your first message.

What marks you as a time-waster

The seller's filter runs on red flags. Avoid these and you're ahead of half the inbox:

Timing and follow-up

A note on tools

None of this needs software — it needs a pre-written message and the discipline to send the right one fast. Software only helps with the step before the message: knowing a matching listing exists within a minute or two of it going live, so you're the one with time to send a good reply instead of the one who arrives late.

Full disclosure, since it's my own: I built an AI agent that watches one eBay Kleinanzeigen search and pings my Discord when a new listing matches rules I write in plain language — about once a minute on the paid tier, every 15 minutes free. It's Kleinanzeigen-only, Discord-only, reads listing text (not images), and you bring your own Gemini key. It gets me to the inbox early; the templates above are what actually close the deal, and those are yours to keep whether you ever touch a tool or not.

The short version

The seller picks the message they can most easily say yes to. Greet them, show you read the listing, signal you're ready to move, make one clean price move, and keep it to a few sentences. Have the templates ready before the listing appears so the only variable is which one you paste. Do that and you'll win deals off people who saw the ad before you did.
